Dr. Anthony C. Janetos is an ecologist at NASA Headquarters in Washington, D.C., where he heads a new program on land-cover and land-use change in the Science Division of that agency's Mission to Planet Earth. NASA's land-cover and land-use change program seeks to understand the interplay between human use of landscapes and environmental factors, with a goal of evaluating the prospects for sustainable use of natural resources.
