A sub-committee of the Canadian Global Change Program used a fully integrated regional
impact assessment model to predict the chemical and biotic response of all lakes in
eastern Canada to changes in acidic deposition resulting from sulphur dioxide emissions
controls in Canada and proposed in the United States. The DFO-ESSA model is the basis for
the predictions and has been described in detail in a series of peer-reviewed papers
published in the Canadian Journal of Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences.
