Recent Accomplishments in Evaluating the
Consequences of Global Change
- Regional scale models of the impacts of global warming on
reservoirs in the western United States have shown that the effects
of temperature increases on aquatic ecosystems and on fisheries
could be significant.
- Models of the impacts of a doubling of CO2 on
agricultural productivity suggest that global productivity hay be
relatively unaffected, but that productivity losses in developing
countries could be significant.
- As a result of toxicity studies on CFC replacement chemicals, the
development of HCFC-132b has been discontinued because it was
found to be rapidly metabolized and to inhibit the production of
enzymes used by the body to detoxify many drugs and chemicals.
