This image is a visualization study of traffic through the NSFNET
backbone, shown by heavy white lines. NSFNET is the U.S. portion of
the Internet, the computer network tying together thousands of
researchers, organizations and private individuals around the world.
The volume of data passing through the NSFNET during one month
(September 1991) ranges from violet (1 billion bytes and less) to
white (100 billion bytes).
