Debuted in spring, 1988, it is devoted to original research on the physical
aspects of natural hazards, the statistics of forecasting catastrophic events,
risk assessment, and the nature of precursors of natural and/or technological
hazards. Hazards of interest are atmospheric, climatological, man-made and
technological. Emphasis is on both analytical and statistical techniques and
case studies. "Hazards Forum" includes contributions from policy
makers on social and political aspects of national hazards.

The first issue of this daughter journal to Palaeogeography/climatology/ecology
is scheduled for fall 1988. It will focus on the record of change in earth
history and the prospect of future changes. Among the topics covered will be
changes in the chemical composition of the oceans and atmosphere, climate and
sea level changes, human geography and global ecology. Articles should be aimed
at a broad readership to foster an interdisciplinary understanding of the earth
as a system.
