AFA CAMPAIGN
Item #d88dec3
The American Forestry Association's program Global
ReLeaf was launched on October 12, 1988, in Washington, D.C. and simultaneously
in Los Angeles by TreePeople, a group that coordinated the planting of one
million trees prior to the 1984 Olympics. Global ReLeaf will motivate citizens
to take immediate, low-cost, low-technology actions to contribute to a global
solution to the greenhouse gas problem. The immediate thrust will be dual:
education about the relation of trees and forests to global warming, and urban
tree planting. Details of the campaign are given in a special issue of American
Forests, which also focuses on tropical forest destruction. (See
PERIODICALS, this Global Climate Change Digest issue--Dec. 1988.)
