EPA EFFECTS REPORT DUE SOON
Item #d89jan4
The draft of a comprehensive study of
the effects of global climate change in the United States, coordinated by the
U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), was reviewed by independent
scientists in November 1988, underwent interagency review in December, and will
be delivered to Congress soon. (See Global Climate Change Digest, NEWS,
Nov. 1988.) Based on general circulation model results, the study predicts
substantial effects of global warming on coastal wetlands, agriculture, and
forests and other natural ecosystems. Extensive excerpts of the draft executive
summary were printed in JAPCA, 1554-1572, Dec. 1988. Comments of Science
Advisory Board members following its November review are covered in Air/Water
Pollut. Rep., p. 395, Nov. 21, and Environ. Rptr. Curr. Develop., p.
1569, Dec. 2.
