International Drought Information Center in cooperation with the WMO World
Climate Program. Free subscriptions are available from Jan Schinstock, Ctr.
Agric. Meteor. & Clim., Univ. Nebraska, Lincoln NE 68583. The inaugural
January 1989 issue features the 1988 drought--its impact on agriculture in North
America, and governmental response.

IGBP News Letter. To be issued three times yearly by the
International Geosphere-Biosphere Program Secretariat (Royal Swedish Acad. Sci.,
Box 50005, S-10405 Stockholm, Swed.) The debut issue (May 1989) reports on the
first meeting of the Scientific Advisory Council for the IGBP in October 1988,
and includes a calendar and other features. One article explains the
relationship between IGBP, which is developing broad, long-term research, and
the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, intended to provide a basis for
policy decisions over the next several years. (See also REPORTS/IGBP, this

at those interested and involved in climate-related impact assessment.
Contributions of material (news items, announcements of publications and grants,
meeting summaries, calendar listings) are welcome.
