U.S. CARBON DIOXIDE EMISSIONS
Item #d89nov5
U.S. carbon dioxide emissions have risen seven percent in the last
two years, reversing general declines in greenhouse gases in the United States
since 1971. This outcome surprised the World Resources Institute which released
the three-page informal report in September 1989, authored by James MacKenzie
and based on the British Petroleum Statistical Review of World Energy.
The three-page report is available from WRI at 1735 New York Ave. NW, Washington
DC 20006 (202-638-6300).
GLOBAL EARTH CONCERT PLANNED. Earth Foundation International plans a
12-hour, live global concert and telethon by satellite link, to be broadcast to
a potential audience of over 3 billion people on December 31, 1989. Funds
generated by the telethon will support numerous direct-action environmental
projects in seven categories and will be distributed in each participating
country by panels of environmental scientists and other experts. The mission of
the Earth Foundations being established in many countries is development of a
global infrastructure of individuals and groups to solve common environmental
crises, and creation of a sustainable, just and peaceful global society by the
year 2000. Contact Earth Concert International Coord. Ctr., Anse St.-Jean, Que.
