U.S. CLIMATE RESEARCH BUDGET

Item #d89oct1

The White House released President Bush's proposed 1990 budget for federal global change research, which will involve over a dozen agencies and departments. (See Our Changing Planet, REPORTS/GENERAL, this Global Climate Change Digest issue--Oct. 1989.) The $191.5 million requested is 43 percent greater than 1989 appropriations. Scientific areas receiving high priority include hydrological systems, and the role of clouds and ocean circulation.
