The House of Commons Select Committee on Energy recommends that Britain and other states in the European Community commit significant long-term funding to programs designed to counter the greenhouse effect, but that Britain should first reduce domestic greenhouse emissions as much as is economically feasible. Sixth Report: Energy Policy Implications of the Greenhouse Effect, released July 21, 1989, is discussed in the August Intl. Environ. Rptr. (pp. 396-397) and the July 22 New Scientist (p. 20), and reviewed in Nature (p. 177, July 21). (Her Majesty's Stationery Office, London; £8.70.)
