Item #d89sep9
Ocean Color: The National Aeronautics and Space Administration and
the Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science (University of Miami)
are processing satellite data from the Coastal Zone Color Scanner, to provide
Earth-gridded values easily accessible for research. Observations of ocean color
provide reliable estimates of marine phytoplankton biomass, an important
component of the global carbon cycle. See "The Oceanography Report,"
Eos, pp. 634-635 ff., June 6, 1989, or contact Gene Feldman, Space Data
and Computing Div., NASA/Goddard Space Flight Center, Greenbelt MD 20771.
TOMS Data: Ten years of Total Ozone Mapping Spectrometer data from
the polar-orbiting Nimbus 7 satellite are now available online. See Eos,
p. 25, April 25, 1989, or contact Carolyn Ng at the address immediately above
(tel: 301-286-4088).
Earth Science Data Directory: The U.S. Geological Survey is
compiling a list of sources of earth science and natural resource data sets
which now includes about 1,700 items. For information contact C.R. Baskin, Off.
Asst. Dir. Info. Systems, USGS, Reston VA 22092.
