BRITISH CLIMATE CENTER
Item #d90feb69
At a United Nations General Assembly meeting
in November, Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher announced plans for a National
Center for Climate Modeling. The £5.5 million center will be located at the
U.K. Meteorological Office in Bracknell. The move coincides with the release of
a report from the House of Lords Select Committee on Science and Technology,
Greenhouse Effect, claiming an urgent need to train more scientists for
global warming research. (See Nature, p. 468, Nov. 30, 1989; Chem. &
Industry, p. 734, Nov. 20, and p. 770, Dec. 4. The report is available from
Her Majesty's Stationery Office, POB 276, London SW8 5DT; £2.70.)
