1990, $5. Provides background for wider public understanding of the consequences
of human actions; reviews the findings of the full report listed below.
Climatic Change: Impacts on New Zealand--Implications for the
Environment, Economy and Society, 244 pp., May 1990. Thirty-five chapters
cover: the weather as we know it and how it might change; natural ecosystems;
soils and landscapes, water, snow and ice; agriculture, forest industries,
transportation, energy, fisheries, tourism, recreation, trade; human
communities, health, employment, housing; risk management, insurance; the Maori
and their resources; the Pacific island territory of Tokelau and the Ross
Dependency in Antarctica. Also gives recommendations for action.
Responding to Climate Change: A Discussion of Options for New Zealand,
54 pp., May 1990. Describes possible ways of limiting the greenhouse effect and
for taking action on changes that may already be occurring. Consideration,
comment and action is encouraged by all community sectors: government, business
and industry, and the public at large. Actions taken would also improve other
major environmental problems.
