BOOKS AND PROCEEDINGS...
OF GENERAL INTEREST
Emerging Energy Technologies: Impacts and Policy Implications, M.
Grubb, 130 pp., expected May 1991, £25 (Wildwood). Examines potentially
important technologies, the mechanisms by which they may develop and enter the
market, and their potential and probable roles.
IMAGE: An Integrated Model to Assess the Greenhouse Effect, J.
Rotmans, 289 pp., Aug. 1990, $111/£62/Dfl.179 (Kluwer).
The result of a research project, "Reference Function for Global Air
Pollution/CO2," initiated by RIVM (Netherlands Nat. Inst. Publ. Health &
Environ. Affairs), it describes a multidisciplinary computer simulation model of
the greenhouse effect. Chapter topics include a general description of IMAGE;
submodels or modules on the carbon cycle, CH4, N2O, CFCs, climate, and sea level
rise; discussions of socio-economic impacts and policy; sensitivity analysis.
Greenhouse Effect, Sea Level and Drought, R. Paepe, R.W.
Fairbridge, S. Jelgersma, Eds., 718 pp., Oct. 1990, $198/£110/Dfl.320
(Kluwer). NATO ASI Ser. C: Math./Phys. Sci., Vol. 325.
Contains papers from a workshop (Mar. 1989, Fuertaventura, Canary Islands)
with participation from NATO countries as well as from Australia, Africa, the
USSR and People's Republic of China. Consists of five parts: greenhouse effects;
sea level; drought and water deficiency; management, techniques and case
studies; panel discussions, conclusions and recommendations.
Session Books and Proceedings of the Air and Waste Management
Association 83rd Annual Meeting and Exhibition, 8 vols., 1990 (AWMA).
Eight-volume set: $850 plus shipping $15 U.S./$30 Canada, Mexico/$70 all other

contains over 500 peer-reviewed papers from about 130 sessions. Sessions
relating to global warming or stratospheric ozone depletion include: "Technological
Progress in Stratospheric Ozone Protection" (Session 138), "Natural
and Anthropogenic Fugitive Emissions of Greenhouse Gases" (Session 139), "Global
Climatic Change: The Problem and Its Mitigation" (Session 141), "Global
Warming and Potential Impact on Electric Utilities" (Session 144), "Crop
Responses to Climate Change" (Session 151), "The Effects of Global
Climate Change on Forest Response (Session 152)."
