Processes for Identifying Regional Influences of and Responses to
Increasing Atmospheric CO2 and Climate Change--The MINK Project: An Overview
(DOE/RL/01830T-H5), N.J. Rosenberg, P.R. Crosson, 35 pp., 1991. Request TR052A
from CDIAC, US DOE, Oak Ridge Nat. Lab., Oak Ridge TN 37831 (615-574-0390).
Prepared by Resources for the Future, Inc., Washington, D.C. Focused on the
states of Missouri, Illinois, Nebraska and Kansas (the MINK Region, encompassing
four major land resource areas) with the goal of improving the methodological
base for assessment of the regional impacts of climate change and of responses
to it. Developed a scenario of climate change by drawing on the 1930s to provide
an analog of anticipated climate change, and compared this decade to a "normal"
period (1951-1980). For the MINK Region of 2030, with a climate like that of the
1930s, concluded that impacts on water resources would be major and severe.
Although by 2030 the impacts on forestry would not be fully felt in the long
term, they would be severe; however, forestry is a very small part of the MINK
economy. The regional economic impacts of the climate change on agricultural and
other natural resource sectors are likely to be small, except at the margins.

potential impacts of global change on forested wetlands. These are categorized
as they apply to plant/community, ecosystem/landscape, management and other
issues.
