Desertification meeting: A U.N.-sponsored meeting held in Geneva in November concluded that desertification, climate change and drought are completely interrelated, and should be treated the same way in climate change negotiations. (See Intl. Environ. Rptr., p. 888, Dec. 1 1993). The meeting was one in a series leading to a future convention on desertification.

The World Coast Conference 1993 took place Nov. 1-5 in Noordwijk, The Netherlands, under the auspices of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. Scientists and high-level policy makers examined responses to the possible impacts of climate change, as well as global loss of wetlands in general. The conference statement calls for all countries with coastal areas to make integrated coastal zone management plans by the year 2000. (See Intl. Environ. Rptr., p. 851, Nov. 17 1993).
