U.S. ACTION PLAN
Item #d93jan110
At the
latest meeting of the Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee for
the climate convention, held Dec. 7-10 in Geneva, the U.S. became
the first country to submit a description of its strategies for
stabilizing greenhouse emissions, a requirement of the climate
convention signed in Rio. The draft document was issued for
public comment in the U.S. in December over the opposition of the
Environmental Protection Agency and environmentalists, who feel
it does not go far enough and signals that the U.S. does not take
the treaty seriously (Inside EPA, p. 3, Dec. 11).
