"American Skeptic Plays Down Global Warming Fears," F. Pearce,
New Scientist, p. 6, Dec. 19-26. Richard Lindzen of MIT presented his
view to the Royal Meteorological Society that the greenhouse effect will have
little impact on climate. His comments coincide with a tide of concern among
other researchers about possible failings in their predictions of a warmer
world. Several of these concerns are discussed.

"Will Canada's Comprehensive Response Strategy Go Up in Smoke?"
N. Sundt, Energy, Econ. & Clim. Change, pp. 2-5, Sep. 1992. A
substantial analysis of the role of wildfire in Canada's carbon budget, whether
that component should be included under the climate convention, and the
implications for Canada's CO2 control strategy if it is.
Item #d93jan115
"Dutch Probe Chemical Way To Raise Their Coast," D. O'Sullivan,
Chem. Eng. News, p. 10, Oct. 12. Government and industry are supporting
research on the feasibility of raising ground level by converting subsurface
limestone to gypsum by pumping sulfuric acid underground. The scheme relies on
the fact that gypsum occupies twice the volume of the corresponding amount of
limestone.
Item #d93jan116
"Doubts Grow over Earth Summit Promises," F. Pearce, New
Scientist, p. 6, Oct. 3. Financial pledges made at Rio last June were absent
from the agenda of the annual meeting of the World Bank, as Western nations
brooded over their currency crises.
