Ku, Nagoya 46401, Japan), Y. Miura et al., 665-672. Describes results of soil
column experiments.
"Suppression of Methane Fluxes from Flooded Paddy Soil with Rice Plants
by Foliar Spray of Nitrogen Fertilizers," M. Kimura (addr. immed. above),
K. Asai et al., 735-740. Pot experiments evaluating effects of fertilizer type
(ammonium sulfate, ammonium chloride, urea) and method of topdressing
(broadcasting, foliar spray) show that topdressing of ammonium sulfate is best,
considering both methane emissions and grain yield.

Zealand," B.B. Beamish (Coalseam Gas Res. Inst., James Cook Univ.,
Townsville, Queensland 4811, Australia), W.E. Vance, J. Roy. Soc. N. Zealand,
2(2), 153-156, June 1992. This analysis shows that mining emissions of
methane, CO2 and CO are grossly miscalculated in greenhouse gas inventories.
Methane emissions from coal seams are a wasted energy resource.

Measurements over a three-year period show that no-tillage cropping of this
site contributes much less methane and CO2 to the atmosphere than either grazing
with ruminants or cropping with cultivation.
