- ANTHROPOGENIC EMISSIONS: NITROGEN OXIDES
Item #d94apr31
"Nitrous
Oxide Emissions from Motor Vehicles in Tunnels and Their Global
Extrapolation," M.G.M. Berges (Airchem. Dept., M. Planck
Inst. Chem., POB 3060, D-6500 Mainz, Ger.), R.M. Hofmann et al., J.
Geophys. Res., 98(D10), 18,527-18,531, Oct. 20, 1993.
Emissions from catalyst-equipped cars are significantly higher
than previously reported. If the world-wide fleet of cars were
equipped with current types of catalysts, global N2O emissions
could double.
Item #d94apr32
"Nitrous
Oxide Emissions from U.K. Power Stations," C.K. Laird
(Kingston Univ., Penrhyn Rd., Kingston-on-Thames, Surrey KT1 2EE,
UK), S.A. Sloan, Atmos. Environ., 27A(9),
1453-1457, June 1993.
Flue-gas measurements show that the greenhouse impact of N2O
from conventional fossil-fuel plants is <1% of that
contributed by the corresponding CO2 emissions.
Item #d94apr33
"Oxides
of Nitrogen in the Earth's Atmosphere: Trends, Sources, Sinks and
Environmental Impacts," O. Badr (Dept. Appl. Energy,
Cranfield Univ., Bedford MK43 0AL, UK), S.D. Probert), Appl.
Energy, 46(1), 1-67, 1993. A lengthy review covering
NO and NO2.
Item #d94apr34
"Fluxes
of Nitric and Nitrous Oxides from Agricultural Soils in a Cool
Temperate Climate," U. Skiba (Inst. Terr. Ecol., Bush
Estate, Penicuik, Midlothian EH26 0QB, UK), K.J. Hargreaves et
al., Atmos. Environ., 26A(14), 2477-2488, Oct.
1992. In the U.K. agricultural land may account for 2-6% of total
NOx emissions and 16-64% of total N2O emissions.
Specialized Papers
Item #d94apr35
"The
Emission of Nitrous Oxide upon Wetting a Rice Soil Following a
Dry Season Fallow," B.H. Byrnes (Intl. Fertilizer Develop.
Ctr., POB 2040, Muscle Shoals AL 35662), L.S. Holt, E.R. Austin, J.
Geophys. Res., 98(D12), 22,925-22,929, Dec. 20, 1993.
Item #d94apr36
"Nitrate
Limitation of N2O Production and Denitrification from Tropical
Pasture and Rain Forest Soils," W.F.J. Parsons (Dept. Bot.,
Univ. Wyoming, Laramie WY 82071), M.E. Mitre et al., Biogeochem., 22(3),
179-193, 1993. Notes the impacts of agricultural land use
practices and soil disturbance on N2O release.
Item #d94apr37
"N2O
Emissions from Stationary Combustion Processes," L.
Gourichon (Cerchar, BP 19, F-62670 Mazingarbe, France), A. Joly
et al., Rev. Generale Thermique, 32(373), 25-33,
Jan. 1993. In French.
