characteristics of the 700 mb height over the 1950-1991 period

Large sea-ice extents and low salinities observed during the
late 1980s can be attributed to prior high runoff into the
Beaufort Sea. The spatial propagation of ice anomalies is
analyzed and related to Arctic and lower latitude interdecadal
variations.
