This
issue of the GCCD introduces a modified format for the
Professional Publications section that should enable us to list
papers sooner after publication and various topics more
frequently, particularly those likely to be of wider interest.
Over the nearly six years of publication of GCCD, the
number of relevant publications has increased several fold. The
new format is based on criteria which have always governed the
priority given to papers in the past and which contribute to the
goals of GCCD.
Papers will appear in three main categories. General
interest papers are those judged to be of potential interest
to readers of all backgrounds, because of their interdisciplinary
nature, or implications for policy or research. They will be
listed in a separate section (usually containing several
subtopics) at the start of each issue. Regular papers, to
appear under major topic headings, are more focused and most
likely to be of interest to readers following those topics. They
may have interdisciplinary content. Specialty papers are
the most narrowly focused, judged to be of interest to readers
actually working within a specialty. They will appear in smaller
type size under the same topic headings used for regular papers,
and will be annotated only if the titles are not
self-explanatory.
Priority in this issue has been given to papers in the first
two categories because of the backlog that has accumulated.
Special journal issues (e.g., Ambio, this month) will
still be listed under their own headings as warranted.
