REPORTS... ETSAP ENERGY/ECONOMIC MODELING
Item #d94sep54
The Energy
Technology Systems Analysis Program (ETSAP) of the International
Energy Agency has entered a new phase (Annex V, 1993-1995). The
main objectives are to expand its previous analyses of greenhouse
gas reduction strategies (based largely on the MARKAL model) to
include economic impacts, international energy market
implications, and emissions other than CO2; and to share the
results with other countries. Program activities, including
summaries of draft or completed reports, are given several times
a year in ETSAP News. Selected topics in recent issues are
given below. To obtain the newsletter, reports, or other
information on the program contact Tom Kram, ECN Policy Studies,
Neth. Energy Res. Foundation, POB 1, 1755 ZG Petten, Neth.
No. 3, June 1994: Comparison of CO2 reduction costs for nine
countries (final report of Annex IV); application of MARKAL to
energy technology research, development and demonstration in the
U.K.; how changes in the use of industrial materials in The
Netherlands could ease the adjustment to CO2 emission
restrictions.
No. 2, Feb. 1994: Benefits of joint implementation calculated
for three European countries; analysis of indirect
("cradle-to-grave") CO2 emissions; technological
boundaries of future CO2 emissions mapped in nine countries.
No. 1, Sep. 1993: Evaluation of economic models suitable for
complementing the national MARKAL models, with trials involving
the U.S. and Japan.
