STRATOSPHERIC AEROSOLS
Item #d95jan63
"Changes in Stratospheric Aerosols and Solar Insolation Due
to Mt. Pinatubo Eruption as Observed over the Western
Pacific," T. Hayasaka (Ctr. Atmos. & Oceanic Studies,
Tohoku Univ., Sendai 980-77, Japan), N. Iwasaka et al., Geophys.
Res. Lett., 21(12), 1137-1140, June 15, 1994.
Shipboard measurements showed that solar insolation decreased
after the eruption by about 1.4-4.1%. This value is larger than
that calculated with radiative transfer code, based on the
aerosol model estimated from sunphotometry.
