IMPACTS OF CLIMATE CHANGE: AGRICULTURE AND FISHERIES
World Agriculture and Climate Change: Economic Adaptations
(AER-703), R. Darwin, M. Tsigas et al., 1995, $12. Order from Econ. Res. Serv.,
NASS, 341 Victory Dr., Herndon VA 220070 (tel: 800 999 6779 US/Can.; or 202 219
0913). Two-page summary available.
Used a global economic model that links climate conditions to land and water
resources, and to production, trade and consumption of 13 commodities. Possible
changes in climate may spur geographic shifts in agricultural production, but
should not significantly affect the level of U.S. and world food production.
Other findings are: costs and benefits of global climate change are not equally
distributed worldwide; world GDP may decline if climate change is severe enough
or if cropland expansion is hindered; land use changes in cropland and permanent
pasture may raise additional social and environmental issues.

Potential Impacts of Global Warming on Salmon Production in the
Fraser River Watershed (CCD 94-04), D.A. Levy, 15 pp., 1994. In English or
French. A Climate Change Digest reserach summary available from Climate
Products, Atmos. Environ. Serv.
The Fraser River in British Columbia produces more salmon than any other
river system in the world. Potential impacts vary in different sections of the
river, with fish in the coastal area likely to be less affected than those in
the interior of the watershed. Direct and indirect impacts are discussed.
