The Greenfreeze refrigerator, developed in Germany a few years ago, uses a
hydrocarbon as a refrigerant and completely avoids the ozone depletion and
global warming problems associated with HFCs and HCFCs. It has become popular in
several countries but curiously, not in the U.S. This article tells how the
technology was developed, and how the story provides a new perspective on
reaching future environmental agreements.
