At its annual meeting held in Mexico City this September, delegates to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change elected U.S. delegate Robert Watson to replace Bert Bolin as Chairman in 1997. (See Intl. Environ. Rptr., pp. 807-808, Sep. 18, 1996.) Watson currently directs the White Office of Science and Technology Policy. The group also accepted revised guidelines for national greenhouse gas inventories, aimed at producing emission estimates that can be monitored and verified.
