FROM VOLUME 11, NUMBER 6, JUNE 1998NEWS... PEW CLIMATE CENTER
Item #d98jun95
Several major corporations, including
American Electric Power, Boeing, and British Petroleum, will help develop
marketplace solutions to climate change in cooperation with a new
organization, funded initially by the Pew Charitable Trusts with a $5
million grant. The Pew Center on Global Climate Change, headed by former
Clinton Administration official Eileen Claussen, will also conduct public
education, undertake studies, and promote climate change solutions
globally.
Joining with the Pew Center as the Business Environmental Leadership
Council, the corporations "accept the views of most scientists that
enough is known" to justify action. They will not contribute funds,
but will help develop reasonable policies and transition strategies.
The Center's new Web site is http://www.pewclimate.com.
