Forbes on Kyoto
Item #d98nov35
Steve
Forbes, editor-in-chief of Forbes Magazine, said in an editorial
in the Oct. 19, 1998, issue of that publication that, the Kyoto
Protocol is simply a Big Government power grab that would severely harm
our economy. He praised the Republican legislators who are trying to
block the implementation of the Kyoto Protocol and added that their
efforts deserve success [because] the global warming theory is deeply
flawed. Citing a proposed economic disincentive to lower consumption
of liquid fossil fuels, he said that in California alone the
proposed permit fee of 65 cents per gallon of gasoline would cost
consumers US$9 billion and extrapolated that nationwide, saying that
the treaty would cost the United States 2.5 million jobs and would reduce
average annual family income by about $2,700.
