NEWS... Russian Forest Fires
Item #d98oct47
On
Oct. 22, Russia Today
and the Agence France Presse reported on the forest fires blazing for
several months in the Russian Far East. Scientists there have said that
the tens of millions of tons of CO2 released to the atmosphere
will contribute to global warming. The fires broke out during a long
drought, and are concentrated on the island of Sakhalin, two-thirds of
which has been burned over.
