NEWS... U.S. Coal Production to Hit New High
Item #d99mar38
Production
of coal will hit 1.12 billion tons, predicts the National Mining
Association in the Feb. 1, 1999, issue of its newsletter Mining Week.
That volume of production will set a record for the third straight year.
The demand is for electricity generation, as utilities seek low-cost fuel.
Utilities will use 935 million tons of coal to generate 57% of the
electricity produced by the public utility sector.
